Arriving on Wednesday, June 22, or joining this new group
following the Pilgrimage to Wounded Knee, participants will
have dinner together and become introduced to one another,
to the staff and to Borderlands Ranch a pilgrimage
destination site as well as an ancient Lakota holy site located
in the heart of the Black Hills of South Dakota, the Lakota
Holy Land. Thursday and Friday we will have morning and afternoon
training sessions with Tracey Herzer, Executive Director of
LeaderResources and discussions with one another. We will
quit sessions early on Friday for some western fun and hospitality
horse-drawn wagon rides, a chuck wagon supper and entertainment.
Saturday afternoon we will have a presentation on First Nations
male and female rites of passage and reflect on how this may
impact and inform the goals of a J2A pilgrimage. Saturday
evening we will have a traditional Lakota feast of buffalo
stew, fry bread and wojapi. Sunday morning we will have a
closing session, worship and brunch before we say our goodbyes.
June 20-22
A Pilgrimage to Wounded Knee: 1890, 1973, 2005 (optional)
will begin on Monday, June 20, at 1 pm and will close at noon
on Wednesday, June 22. There will be orientation and a film
Monday along with opportunity to walk the labyrinth in preparation
for our long day of travel on Tuesday. We will begin with
a breakfast stop at the Red Shirt Table lookout at the Badlands
before traveling on to Oglala Lakota College Heritage Center
outside of Kyle, SD. From there we will travel on to Wounded
Knee visiting with local spiritual leaders and viewing churches
along the way. Following Wounded Knee, we will go on to the
village of Pine Ridge, visiting Red Cloud School and Church
before traveling back to the Black Hills. A twilight drive
through Wind Cave National Park and Custer State Park will
hopefully give us the opportunity to glimpse a buffalo or
bobcat along the way. Wednesday morning we will join together
in reflections and a closing ceremony prior to having lunch
together.
